Why I Love White

Currently I’m trying to bring our home from the hodge-podge collection of newly-wed/ college/ bachelor style furniture over to something with some style and cohesion.  After 4 years of marriage, I’d say it is about time.  So far the husband is a little apprehensive about my attraction towards white.  Most of our wedding registry items were white so this is not a new predilection.

I would say my style leans more towards vintage with a slight French country vibe but I also love certain modern pieces and everything in between.  To me, having a mostly monochromatic pallette allows you to mix all of these styles together easier than if you used natural wood stain and colored upholstery.  It can be done but I’ve only seen it done well with professional interior designers which I am not.  Besides, I like using finds from Craigslist, garage sale, etc. which usually don’t look like they came from Ethan Allen catalog.

Guest Room Tour

I recently finished decorating the guest room.  I still want to add a small side table and move the lamp from the dresser next to the bed.  I’d also like to sand down and paint the dresser since it is pretty beat up.

On the wall I put up white birch and green birds vinyl wall decals that I bought off of Etsy.

You can see our old tv on the dresser.  It is only hooked up to a DVD player and doesn’t get cable.  I’d prefer we get rid of it but the husband is not quite ready to part with it yet.

The art on the wall are pictures taken of the flowers in the backyard.  I went to Michaels and got some gallery style frames.  Can’t beat their 50% off coupons.

And for the floor I used a rug that I picked up in Turkey.

Kitchen Inspiration

This spring I plan on giving my kitchen cabinets a refresh. The cabinets are oak and already have a worn pinkish white glaze which doesn’t really go with anything. They are in great shape still and a full kitchen remodel is out of the budget so I’m going to go the painting route.

I’m still going back and forth between a pure white or more of a creamy white.  I currently have various Benjamin Moore paint swatches taped up.  So many whites that I love it is hard to choose!  I’m currently leaning towards “Cloud White” which is the second from the left on the bottom swatch.

Here are some kitchens I’ve found online that I love.  More of a pure white…

A creamy white look I like.

And some colored cabinets in a French Country style.

I still have a few weeks before it warms enough to paint in my garage so we’ll see if I stick with “Cloud White” when the time finally comes.
